This 1200 calorie diet is aimed at people that have little time for a diet. If you have trouble finding time to cook, then the meal plans within the 1200 calorie diet are for you.
Each meal is a total of 1200 calories and is healthy and not overly fattening unlike other 1200 calorie diets that suggest you can eat anything as long as you don't eat over 1200 calories a day. I can assure you, if you eat a donut or two or three and they add up to only 1200 calories you won't lose any weight, in fact, you'll likely need to spend hours at the gym doing cardiovascular exercise to work it off.
Once I tested how bad a donut is for losing weight. I found that after eating 3 donuts, I had to burn about 6000 calories doing cardiovascular exercise, that's more than 6 hours of cardio! Can you believe how bad a donut is for you? I used a calorie measurement tool, those heart rate monitors to measure how many calories I burnt. After I burned 6000 in one day (working out all day), I broke even and didn't gain a pound, but didn't lose a single pound because of the donuts I ate.
Before beginning any diet you should have a doctor approve of your undertaking. This 1200 calorie diet plan focuses on frozen and microwaveable foods that are packaged. The salt content may be a bit on the higher end. For that reason, your doctor may not think it is appropriate for you especially if you have hypertension or heart failure.
Those people that have or are suspected of having cardiovascular disease, other health problems, obesity or are greater than 40 years of age may be required to have a stress exercise if they plan on any physical exercise during their diet.
This diet includes meal suggestions, all of which are outlined for a total period of 90 days. Listing all 90 days worth of meal plans is beyond the scope of this webpage.
Weight loss over the 90 day period for overweight women is about 23 to 33 pounds. Big women will lose more and smaller women will likely loss less.
Men on the other hand, lose between 35 to 45 pounds over the 90 day period, with smaller men losing less and larger men more.
It is recommended that breakfast be eaten every morning. The night before, before you go to bed, set everything up for breakfast in the morning, get the coffee machine ready. Make sure you have enough cereal and low-fat milk.
Breakfast is primarily whole-grain cereal on this diet. Substitutions are ok in this diet unlike other diets. If you don't want Raisin Bran one morning you can substitute Shredded Wheat for it instead.
Lunch typically consists of a soup or a sandwich. The soups recommended are all microwaveable bowls. In the dieting book, there is an Appendix with alternative soups to substitute.
Bread is a concern in the diet because recently loaves of bread like candy have gotten larger in size. Not long ago, a slice of bread was 70 calories, today a slice of bread is at least 100 calories. Whole-Grain-Breads at 70 calories are indicated.
Such light bread can be found at the supermarket but make sure it is whole grain light bread which may be more difficult to find. "Pepperidge Farm Small Slice 100% Whole Wheat" is a good choice, it tastes fine and has 70 calories per slice.
Every meal at dinner time is frozen initially and doesn't container enough veggies. That's why a Big-Bowl of Salad is necessary at dinner time. Such as salad, which the book covers in detail how to prepare, has a total of about 100 calories.
The salad can be topped with 2 tablespoons of any light salad dressing available at your supermarket as long as it contains no more than 25 calories per tablespoon. Along with the salad dressing, the salad will be about 150 calories and will contain health-giving vitamins, minerals and fiber.
It's important that you have this bowl of salad because when you eat fewer calories than you used to it is easy to get constipated unless you make sure you are eating fiber everyday. This salad ensures that.
The 1200 Calorie Diet book contains information about snacking. A morning snack, an afternoon snack and an evening snack are planned every day. The snacks don't look too shabby, have a look:
Dannon Light Yogurt: Each has 60 calories and comes in packs of 6 or 12 packets. Several flavors are available.
Another snack is fresh fruit of the season: I love to eat fruit, you can choose to have an apple, pear, peach, plum, watermelon (1 cup) etc.
Handful of Unsalted Mixed Nuts: Handful is just that, 1 handful, don't make it a huge handful because nuts are a very high calorie food. Make sure they are unsalted because the diet is already high in salt.
Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwich: This a low-calorie, low-fat, tasty dairy-sweet snack. Yes, you even get to have something sweet once in awhile.
Nature Valley Crunch Granola bar: Another sweet snack that contains about 90 calories.
Popcorn Mini Bag: Popcorn isn't too shabby, and is a nutritious high-fiber, filling snack. Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop Popcorn Mini bag are recommended, they contain only 110 calories per bag. A hot-air popper is suggested if you want even better popcorn. If you air-pop it, make sure to eat only 5 or 6 cups of the popcorn and store away the rest.
