Master Cleanse Recipe

The master cleanse recipe (one serving):

  1. 1 cup (8 ounces) of purified water (250 milliliters)
  2. 2 tablespoons freshly-squeezed lemon juice. (a small lemon can yield 4-5 tablespoons of fresh juice.)
  3. 2 tablespoons maple syrup (about 28 milliliters)
  4. 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper (2 healthy dashes)

For the master cleanse recipe, use ripe, fresh lemons ONLY. Cut each lemon when you are ready to prepare your lemonade, so that the juice is as fresh as possible.

If your work place has no facility for slicing lemons or time does not allow you to do so during the day, squeeze extra juice in the morning and take it with you. However, I want to emphasize that you should use freshly-squeezed juice as much as you possibly can.

Buy the lemons as fresh as possible; or even better would be to pick them from a tree in your yard.

Do not store all the lemons in the refrigerator; keep enough for a two-day supply (6 or 7 lemons) on your counter top so the ripening process can continue while they are sitting. Refrigerate the rest of the lemons, placing 3 additional lemons on the counter each day.

The additional nutrients found in naturally ripened lemons will help sustain you for the duration of the cleansing process.

For convenience, people sometimes made the lemonade in large batches for the day and store it in the refrigerator. You can do that, but it is not ideal. The purists, believe that you should always consume fresh lemonade every time you need to drink.

Each glass of lemonade should be finished within a five to ten-minute period after it has been prepared. This ensures that the natural enzymes in the lemonade are still present. After 10 minutes they begin to dissipate. If consumption takes longer, the lemonade will still do its job; but, if you want to do everything possible to get the full benefits of the diet, following this rule is important.

If you want to "batch" the lemonade, it is better to squeeze the juice and mix with the maple syrup. The sugar in the syrup is a natural preservative and will help preserve the nutrients in the lemon juice.

When you are ready for a drink, add the cayenne pepper and pure water, and drink immediately. Do not let it sit because of the 10-minute rule explained above.

WARNING: Do not add the cayenne pepper in the master cleanse recipe to the juice/syrup "batch." The intensity of cayenne increases over time and you could end up with a drink that would burn any normal person's tongue.
