Exploring How You Can Focus on Improving Your Prostate Nutrition

Prostate nutrition can help prevent cancer. When it comes to men’s health, the prostate is often a forgotten gland until aging starts its downward spiral. The prostate is particularly prone to developing cancerous growths as men reach an advanced age. In fact, by the age of 60, almost half of all men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. Although this type of cancer is not usually particularly aggressive or fast to spread, it still threatens to cut the patient’s life short.

The prostate is also prone to enlargement over the years, which can have a negative impact on your renal function. Thankfully, you can eat a healthy diet full of healthy foods that benefit your prostate nutrition and keep this gland in good shape over the years. Here are three foods you must enjoy daily to keep your prostate in good health.

Pomegranate contains a blend of vitamins and minerals that support healthy cell regeneration. As a result, this substance can actively reduce the growth of abnormal cancer cells throughout the body, including the prostate. This fruit also provides your body with vitamin C, magnesium, vitamin B6 and potassium.

To net the benefits, you can either grab a bottle of the pre-squeezed juice or enjoy the fun of gathering and eating the arils yourself for an extra boost of fiber as well. Pomegranate arils make an excellent addition to coconut milk yogurt, fruit salad and gelatin desserts.

Green Vegetables

People who focus on their prostate health by regularly eating a low-fat, vegetarian diet have a lower prevalence of prostate problems in their elderly years. Green vegetables, in particular, contain a healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that protect your prostate from cell damage.

Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables provide your body with vitamin C, which improves the absorption of other beneficial nutrients and helps support the health of your immune system. When your immune system is in good shape, it can eradicate abnormal cells before they join together and start to multiply within your prostate.

Tomatoes are something of a super food when it comes to the health of your prostate. Studies show that consuming at least 10 servings of tomatoes each week reduces the risk of prostate cancer by 35 percent. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which gives them their rich red color.

This important nutrient also acts as an antioxidant that reduces free radicals from causing damage to your body at the cellular level. Cooked, rather than raw, tomatoes are best, as the heating process releases the lycopene so it can be used by your body.

Foods to Avoid While Improving Prostate Nutrition

Your prostate nutrition also depends on your willingness to avoid certain potentially harmful foods and beverages. Both lean and fatty meat drive up the presence of testosterone, which can have an aggravating effect on the cells in your prostate and cause the gland to enlarge. You should replace any animal-derived protein sources, including eggs, with plant-based proteins, such as beans and quinoa.

You can also facilitate good prostate nutrition by reducing your dairy consumption, as its insulin-like growth factor, or IGF-1, can increase your risk of developing prostate cancer prematurely. If you do not want to fully cut out dairy products, at least switch to the low-fat versions to reduce your intake of IGF-1. You can always try to replace your favorite milk products with plant-based variants to see how those work for you.
