The author Mark Sisson of “The Primal Blueprint” is clever. Through his thorough research he has discovered that conventional wisdom about health and fitness is not exactly current or spot on. For example, the foundation of a healthy diet has been conditioned into us, it is generally believed we need 6-10 daily servings of carbohydrates and whole grains; however, the primal blueprint states that this was the “worst mistake in the history of the human race.” This mistake has lead to excessive insulin production, fat storage and heart disease. I have read that recently in several other dieting books and dialogues and agree completely.
Conventional wisdom has also stated that saturated fat is highly dangerous, leading to heart disease. The wisdom then states we should replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated fats; however, the Framingham and Nurses Health studies, has shown little to no association between saturated fat and heart disease. In fact, heart disease didn’t become such a large problem until after the government released the dietary guidelines advising us to eat more carbohydrates (the main heart disease culprit) and less fat! In fact, large amounts of fat intake from animal foods occurred as long as 2 million years ago resulting in efficient fat metabolism, weight control and stable energy levels.

The conventional wisdom has been expensive to America. It isn’t working, America is fatter then ever and getting fatter every year with no sign of stabilizing anytime soon.
Picture yourself being thin and imagine the benefits. One benefit is an extended life span; however, remember that the conventional wisdom is resulting in excess body fat storage, subpar fitness results, aching joints, gastrointestinal problems, frequent minor illnesses, sugar cravings, energy swings, and recurring fatigue. If you don’t change, you’ll end up with obesity, diabetic, with heart disease and cancer.
Cancer means chemotherapy, which means an incredible

Your entire caloric intake should consist of plants (vegetables, nuts, herbs, fruits, seeds and spices) along with animals (meat, fowl, fish and eggs).
Check out the food pyramid below to get an idea of what proportions these items should be consumed in. Note the book goes further into detail about what exact foods should be eaten and what exact foods should be avoided including approved fats and oils etc.
What's important to notice is the carbs. For accelerated fat loss you should consume 50-100 grams/day or less! On the Atkins' diet you eat 0 carbs per day. With 100-150 grams/day of carbs you will continue effortless weight maintenance. Anything over 100-150 grams/day and your asking for weight gain, heart disease, diabetes and other weight related disorders.
